What Does Your Diamond Certificate Tell You?

Jan 2, 2026

When you choose a lab-grown diamond from Novus Diamond, you receive more than just a stunning stone. You receive an official grading report from the International Gemological Institute (IGI).

The IGI is recognized globally as one of the largest and most trusted independent gemological laboratories. They were pioneers in developing specific grading standards for lab-grown diamonds, which is why their certificate is the gold standard.

This document is your diamond's scientific fingerprint and official ID. It goes beyond simple identification to deliver a comprehensive, objective assessment of your stone's quality and characteristics.

The Foundation: A Snapshot of the 4Cs

Every diamond’s value is fundamentally determined by the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight. These are the pillars of diamond quality, and they form the main section of your IGI report.

  • Carat: The diamond's weight.
  • Color: How colorless the stone is (graded from D to Z).
  • Clarity: The presence or absence of internal and external blemishes and inclusions.
  • Cut: The quality of the diamond's proportions, polish, and symmetry, which determine its brilliance.

While these grades are essential, we cover them in detail in our dedicated guide: What Are the 4Cs of Diamonds?

🔎 The Deep Dive: Beyond the 4 Cs

Your IGI report includes critical technical and security details that go far beyond the basic 4 Cs.

Identity & Origin

  • Report Number: A unique ID laser-inscribed on the diamond’s girdle, permanently linking the stone to its certificate and protecting against fraud. You can confirm your certificate using the report number directly on the IGI website.
  • Description: Clearly states “Laboratory-Grown Diamond,” confirming full transparency about the stone’s origin.
  • Shape & Measurements: Verifies the diamond’s shape and exact millimeter dimensions.

Proportions & Light Performance

A proportion diagram details table %, depth %, girdle thickness, and culet size—key factors that determine how efficiently the diamond reflects light and creates brilliance.

Finish Grades

  • Polish: Measures facet smoothness for optimal light transmission.
  • Symmetry: Assesses precision and alignment, directly impacting sparkle.

Fluorescence

Reports UV reaction from None to Very Strong. In most lab-grown diamonds, fluorescence does not affect beauty under normal lighting.
